The directions (though occasionally confusing) are written clearly and concisely. Following the recent disbandment of the Nintendo Power strategy guides, Prima has now become the sole publishing company that continues to develop strategy guides for games made by Nintendo. The strategies they give for boss fights and the like are very effective. The problem with Prima however, is that they ultimately fall short of the caliber of Nintendo's past player's guides, especially (and more importantly) Legend of Zelda guides. The largest flaw in all of Prima's latest guides to the Zelda series, is the fact that they mostly only give written directions, a tragic flaw due to the fact that (besides linguistic clarity and visual appeal) visual diagrams and directions are the largest factor in determining whether or not someone is more likely to buy a guide instead consulting an online website that provides similar coverage. The second factor in Prima's less than stellar ability to write strategy guides for the Legend of Zelda is the fact that they write their directions in a way that almost forces you to obtain every heart piece, bottle, or other available sidequest before actually proceeding with parts of the game related to the main storyline. This is especially frustrating for people who want to take care of the extra things in the game at a later time. Finally, (and this is more of an aesthetic complaint) Prima blatantly and needlessly spoils the storyline by summing up virtually all of the events that take place in the game. However, all of this said, the guide they have made for this game is still a worthwhile purchase. The maps and lists cover all of the locations for every optional piece of equipment in the game. And finally, unlike several free guides out there, the entire guide is written in a very clear and intelligent tone.So to summarize:Pros:+Best guide available+Great strategies+Comprehensive lists+Well writtenCons:-Lack of visual directions lead to confusion when substituted by written directions-Doesn't encourage players to take care of optional quests at their own leisure.-Reveals more of the storyline than necessary.Overall, this is a solid guide, and is great for anyone looking to get the most out of the game.
Finding out if you missed something requires looking at each checklist in the back to see how many there are and then finding the right map of the Temple. This guide is very helpful. The only problem I have is that the main Temple, that you have to go back to time and again, is reprinted in part every time you have to go back, but nowhere is the complete map shown. I would have appreciated a complete map of the Temple printed at the end of the book with all the chests and shortcuts through the levels drawn on it. They could have even put it on the other side of the sea map poster that was in the book, definitely an excellent resource to include.
